Our story

Built around the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.

The Academy began in 1995 with a simple goal: help every student reach more of their potential. Three decades later, that idea still shapes the way we teach and the community we build.

Since 1995

A long-established Manchester community.

What started as a martial arts school has grown into a place where children, teens, adults, and older adults pursue health, confidence, personal excellence, and meaningful relationships.

We take training seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Classes are engaging, practical, and grounded in respect. Students become part of a community that notices their progress and wants them to succeed.

From our founder

“Choosing a school is about much more than finding the instructor with the highest rank.”

Grandmaster Waldron founded The Academy to help students grow both within martial arts and in the rest of their lives. With more than 45 years of martial arts experience, his focus remains the same: meet people at their level, help them discover what they can do, and create a positive place to keep learning.
